The page that you see on the web browser is created by web designers who make use of text, images, digital media and interactive elements. This planning and creating of a website is nothing but Web Design. Usually HTML is used for the structure of the website and CSS for presentation. For adding interactivity the web designers use Java script so that the browsers can read the pages. The web site may contain several pages. Hyperlinks can be used to go from one page to another in a web site. As a default design the hyperlinks look like blue underlined words but can be changed and even images also can be made hyperlinks. So, in total a web design is a final product of conceptualization, planning, research, post production and advertising.
The technologies that are usually used for writing the codes are HTML and CSS. CSS helps to give the required style and layout to the web page and also makes the maintenance of the site and web authoring simple. Currently XHTML also is being used by many web designers as this keeps the flexibility of HTML and at the same time contain dynamic content in the web development. Once the web site is launched there may be small changes that have to be taken care of at the beginning but major changes can be done once in certain period.
Principles:
The following are the tips to be followed for a good web design:
• Lens flares, bevels, drop shadows, glows were the striking features of the websites of the 90s. This is done by the filters provided by some programs. These filters should be used properly or left out completely.
• The web site should be user friendly. It should be easy to read, access and understand. The design takes its place when the user knows what the site is exactly about in the first few seconds. The presentation of the content is very important in the web design.
• The size of the font should not be too small for a web page. The size of the font should always be more than 12px. You should also take care of the line height. You should change it properly to enable the user to read easily.
• The color theme of a website should appeal to the web designing. There should not be too many colors on the screen should also relate to the purpose of the site.
• The contrast should be suitable for reading only then the user can feel easy with the content. The background color should be very dark if the fore ground is a light color and vice versa.
A formula for layout and design should not be followed blindly. The purpose of the site is to be understood first and then go about the design relative to the purpose. This creates an impressive and effective web site.
• A great web site cannot be created in the first attempt itself. Mistakes should be treated as lessons and you should finally create a wonderful website learning from these mistakes. For this a good looking site can be redesigned in your own style for practice. This helps to improve your design sense. |
